Coconut water Ginger Lemonade with Almond Pisin (Gum)

A jelly like natural coolant and a perfect thirst quencher will most likely be on top of your favorite beverage list for scorching summer days. Refreshing, nutritious, ultimate rehydrating beverage made in just 2 steps. 

Badam Pisin or Almond gum is a natural body coolant that helps reduce the body heat. This white and hard substance is an edible gum extracted from Almond tree. It is widely taken along with Nannari sarbath or Jigarthanda. Children can consume these natural and healthy jellies rather than the artificial jello's. For those living in abroad, you will find it on amazon as "Almond Gum" or "Badam Pisin" (high-priced).


Health benefits:


Almond resin/gum or Badam pisin is a good home remedy for dysentery, helps cure mouth or stomach ulcers and has cholesterol lowering properties. Also, prevents heartburn and acidity. Do not consume on daily basis as it can increase weight gain. 

Young coconut water is a natural energy and sports drink that contains all 5 essential electrolytes - potassium, magnesium, calcium, sodium and phosphorus. It is low in fat, sugar and aids in digestions and has anti-viral/ anti-fungal properties. Always drink directly from fresh young coconut if easily available. 

Lemons are rich in antioxidants and vitamin c which boosts the immune system and protects against the inflammation associated with arthritis.

Ginger is an electrolyte balance with its rich potassium, magnesium and manganese. Relieves gastrointestinal distress, inflammation and migraine caused due to stress. Encourages normal blood circulation and prevents symptoms of motion sickness.

INGREDIENTS- For 2 servings
  1. Coconut water - 1 1/2 cups
  2. Lemon - 3 teaspoons 
  3. Ginger Juice - 2 teaspoon or Ginger(grated) - 1 teaspoon 
  4. Raw Honey - 2 tablespoons or Sugar - 2 teaspoons (adjust to your taste) 
  5. Almond Resin or Gum/ Badam Pisin - 3 granules (used 6 tablespoons of bloomed) 
  6. Water - 1 cup (to soak the almond gum) 
  7. Mint leaves for garnish 
DIRECTIONS


1. Soak the Almond gum/ badam pisin in 1 cup water for 6 - 8 hours to bloom into a jelly like substance. 



2. In a tall glass drop 2-3 ice cubes, lemon juice, ginger juice, honey, almond gum and pour in the coconut water. Give it a good stir or blend all these in a blender and serve immediately. 
3. Garnish with mint leaves and or lemon slices if you desire. 

NOTES AND TIPS

1. Soak the Almond gum/ badam pisin in water overnight to form a jelly like substance. Always use a large bowl as its volume multiplies 3-4 times. Separate and discard any amber colored resin. Refrigeration is recommended until use.  

2. Mint leaves and or lemon slices can be used to garnish if you desire.

3. I added mint leaves to my ice tray for a decorative and flavored ice cubes. Try lemon zest to the same if you like.
